Most of our Alaska couples are planning one of two very different weddings: an intimate elopement deep in the backcountry, or a fully organized celebration in Anchorage with family flown in from the Lower 48. Alaska's light is legendary — and it genuinely changes what's possible in photography. Summer weddings, particularly those scheduled between late May and early August, benefit from the Midnight Sun: soft, diffuse golden light that stretches through late evening and makes outdoor ceremonies glow without harsh shadows or squinting guests.

Fall weddings, typically September and early October, bring dramatic skies, early snowfall on the peaks, and the real possibility of aurora borealis displays after dark — a backdrop that speaks for itself in photographs.

Winter weddings in Alaska are bold choices, but the snow-covered landscape and long blue-hour light create an aesthetic that is completely distinct from anywhere else. Indoor venues in Anchorage become important anchors for winter celebrations, with outdoor portraits kept brief but spectacular.

Spring, from April into May, is a transitional season — mud and late snow are real, but so is the return of light and the drama of break-up along the rivers.

Anchorage is the natural hub for most Alaska weddings, with the widest range of venues — historic lodges, contemporary event spaces, hotels with mountain views, and the sprawling parks system on the city's edge. The Chugach range forms a permanent dramatic backdrop visible from much of the city.
