Wedding Photography in Florida

Florida is one of the most active wedding photography markets in the country, and its diversity of settings explains why. Miami operates as a fashion-forward destination market — rooftop venues with South Beach and Biscayne Bay views, Art Deco buildings in South Beach, luxury hotel venues in Coconut Grove and Coral Gables, Wynwood's street-art corridors for contemporary portraits. Tampa and St. Pete bring waterfront and downtown character that is more accessible and less charged than Miami but equally photogenic. Orlando's resort corridor — with a concentration of large-hotel event facilities and destination wedding infrastructure — serves couples arriving from out of state who want a turnkey experience.

Further north and south, the character shifts again. St. Augustine is the oldest continuously occupied European settlement in North America, and its Spanish colonial architecture — narrow stone streets, the Castillo de San Marcos, the Plaza de la Constitución — creates a backdrop with history that no other Florida city can match. Key West, 120 miles off the southern tip of the peninsula, has a relaxed tropical personality anchored by Victorian gingerbread architecture, lush tropical gardens, and the Gulf of Mexico and Atlantic Ocean within walking distance of each other.

Sarasota, Naples, and the Gulf Coast offer a different Florida: calm water, fine white sand, mangrove-fringed nature preserves, and an estate venue culture built around the arts philanthropist community.

Florida's wedding calendar is almost the inverse of most of the country. The most popular months are October through May — the dry season, when humidity drops to manageable levels and temperatures across the peninsula are warm but not oppressive. This window represents the prime outdoor photography condition in Florida.

Summer — June through September — is Florida's rainy and hurricane season. Afternoon thunderstorms occur almost daily from June through August, typically building between noon and 4 p.m. and clearing by evening. Couples who marry in summer plan around this pattern, scheduling outdoor elements for morning or evening. The afternoons, counterintuitively, can produce dramatic storm-light photography moments as cells move through.

South Florida — Miami, the Keys, Fort Lauderdale — has a more moderate summer than central and north Florida, with sea breezes keeping conditions more comfortable. North Florida communities like Pensacola and Gainesville have more pronounced seasonal swings and a climate that resembles the Deep South more than the tropics.

Key West operates in its own micro-climate, distinctly tropical, with the warmest winters in the continental U.S. and a photography aesthetic that works year-round.

Orlando's wedding market is primarily resort-based: the Walt Disney World resort's private event venues, Universal properties, Rosen properties, and dozens of dedicated event facilities in the I-4 corridor serve the large-scale destination wedding market. We photograph at these properties with full familiarity of their logistics.

St. Augustine is one of our most photographically rewarding Florida markets — the narrow streets, coquina stone architecture, and the Flagler College campus create portrait environments unlike anywhere else in the state. Key West, reached by the Overseas Highway across the Florida Keys, offers a 3-hour drive from Miami and a completely distinct tropical-island character.

Florida's light is warm and bright — sometimes intensely so. Midday sun in Florida is genuinely harsh, which is why portrait timing is critical here. Golden hour in Florida — the 45 to 60 minutes before sunset — creates the most flattering and distinctive images, with the warm orange glow reflecting off water, white sand, and tropical foliage in a way that feels immediately recognizable.
