Wedding Photography in Georgia

Georgia's wedding landscape divides neatly between its two dominant markets — Atlanta and Savannah — while containing multitudes beyond both. Atlanta is one of the fastest-growing major cities in the country, with a wedding venue scene that ranges from converted warehouse spaces in the Westside Provisions district through Beltline-adjacent arts venues, rooftop event spaces in Midtown and Buckhead, and the garden estates of Alpharetta, Roswell, and Marietta.

Savannah is a completely different proposition. The historic district's moss-draped squares, antebellum homes, and cobblestone streets along the Savannah River bluff have made it one of the Southeast's premier wedding destinations. The cathedral-like live oaks that arch over every block create a natural canopy that filters light into something extraordinary in the late afternoon.

Between these poles, Georgia offers apple-orchard and vineyard venues in the Blue Ridge foothills north of Atlanta, plantation-era estate properties in Middle Georgia, and coastal venues on Jekyll Island and St. Simons Island that bring salt marsh and Atlantic coast character to the mix.

Spring in Georgia — March through May — is the most popular outdoor photography season. Azaleas, dogwoods, and wisteria bloom across the state in a way that is deeply specific to the Southeast, and the temperatures are warm without being oppressive. Atlanta's Piedmont Park and the Atlanta Botanical Garden are particularly spectacular in April.

Fall from October through November brings the second peak. North Georgia mountains produce reliable fall color from mid-October, and the afternoons cool enough for comfortable outdoor ceremonies and portrait sessions. The Blue Ridge corridor — Blue Ridge, Dahlonega, Ellijay — becomes one of the most active wedding destinations in the state during this window.

Summer in Georgia is hot and humid, with temperatures regularly exceeding 90°F. Evening ceremonies and shaded outdoor venues become essential, and the midday hours are typically avoided for portraits. Indoor venues with strong air conditioning carry the summer market.

Savannah's wedding season is more year-round given its mild coastal climate, though the humid summers push some couples toward fall and spring.

Atlanta is our Georgia hub, with regular coverage across Intown neighborhoods, Buckhead estate venues, Decatur's arts-community character, and the suburban wedding markets of Alpharetta, Roswell, Marietta, and Canton.

Savannah is our second major market, and we photograph there frequently. The Forsyth Park fountain, the Bonaventure Cemetery grounds (for formal portraits), the Mansion on Forsyth, and the riverfront district along River Street all appear regularly in our Savannah work.

For North Georgia mountain venues, we photograph in the Dahlonega wine country, the Blue Ridge and Ellijay apple-orchard venues, and the private mountain estates above Jasper and Dawsonville that take advantage of the ridge-line views.

The Georgia coast — Jekyll Island's historic Millionaires' Village, the Sea Island resort, and the St. Simons venues along the marshfront — provides an entirely different coastal Southeast setting from South Carolina or Florida.

Georgia light has a particular quality in spring and fall — warm, slightly golden, filtered through tree canopy in a way that makes outdoor portraits feel luminous without requiring reflectors or fill flash. Savannah's live oak canopy takes this effect to its extreme: the shaded squares produce a continuous golden diffused light from late morning through early afternoon that flatters almost every subject.

We photograph Georgia weddings with an eye toward the environment's natural generosity. When the light is doing something spectacular — and in Georgia spring and fall, it frequently is — we let it lead.
