Wedding Photography in New York

New York State is not a single wedding photography market — it is at least six entirely different ones that happen to share a state line. New York City and its boroughs constitute one of the world's great urban wedding photography environments: Central Park, the Brooklyn Bridge, Dumbo's view of the Manhattan skyline and East River bridges, the rooftops of Williamsburg and Long Island City, and hundreds of venue spaces ranging from the Metropolitan Museum's Great Hall to warehouse-district lofts in Bushwick.

The Hudson Valley, 60 to 120 miles north of the city, has developed into one of the East Coast's premier destination wedding markets, with the concentration of vineyard estate venues in the Columbia and Dutchess county hills, the historic estates of the Catskill foothills, the Storm King Art Center's sculpture grounds, and the architectural heritage of the Hudson Valley's 19th-century country house tradition.

The Catskills, the Finger Lakes wine country, the Hamptons and North Fork of Long Island, the Adirondack wilderness, and the Great Lakes shoreline near Buffalo and Niagara Falls each constitute distinct markets with their own venue cultures, seasonal patterns, and visual aesthetics.

New York City operates on a four-season calendar, with June and September-October as peak months. The Hudson Valley's vineyard estates peak in fall — October foliage in the Catskill foothills and Berkshire-adjacent hills is among the finest in the Northeast, and the combination of harvest-season vineyards and leaf color makes October the most requested Hudson Valley month.

The Hamptons peak in summer — June through Labor Day — when the estate gardens are at full growth and the Atlantic Ocean provides the backdrop for both beach ceremonies and the seaside estate receptions that define the Hamptons market. Spring is significantly less crowded and the properties are lush with May and June flowering.

Finger Lakes wine country peaks in fall harvest season — September and October — when the lakeside vineyards are at their most visually interesting and the hillside foliage creates color that reflects in the long narrow lakes below.

The Adirondacks and the High Peaks region have a compressed summer season (July through early September) and a spectacular fall that is among the most dramatic in the Northeast, with larch and hardwood mixing at lower elevations around Lake Placid and the Essex County communities.

New York City is our statewide anchor. We photograph throughout all five boroughs — Manhattan's Central Park Conservatory Garden, the Brooklyn Bridge and Dumbo neighborhood, the rooftop venues of Brooklyn and Queens, the Bronx's New York Botanical Garden, and Staten Island's Snug Harbor Cultural Center and Botanical Garden.

In the Hudson Valley, our most active territory spans the Rhinebeck and Hudson corridor, with venues along the hillside between the Catskills and the river. The DIA:Beacon museum grounds, Olana State Historic Site, and Staatsburgh State Historic Site (Mills Mansion) provide the region's most significant public photography locations.

For the Catskills, we photograph at converted barn venues throughout Sullivan, Ulster, and Delaware counties. The Catskill region's arts-community character has driven a wave of renovation that has made former dairy barns into distinctive wedding venues with mountain views and genuine rural character.

The Finger Lakes — Seneca, Cayuga, Canandaigua, and Keuka — serve a wine-country market from Ithaca through Watkins Glen and Geneva. The Hamptons' venues from Bridgehampton through Montauk serve the Long Island market. Lake Placid and the Adirondack communities serve the northern wilderness market.

New York wedding photography spans the widest possible aesthetic range within a single state. A Dumbo loft wedding with the Brooklyn Bridge visible through the window and a vineyard estate Hudson Valley wedding with the Catskills behind the tent share a state but almost nothing else in terms of visual language. We photograph each setting as itself — using the specific visual resources of Central Park or a Catskill hillside or a Seneca Lake vineyard with full attention to what makes each one irreplaceable.
