Wedding Photography in Tennessee

Tennessee's three grand divisions — west, middle, and east — each produce distinct wedding photography character. Middle Tennessee, centered on Nashville, has become one of the country's most popular wedding destinations over the past decade. The combination of the honky-tonk neon aesthetic of Lower Broadway, the sophisticated venues of the Gulch and SoBro neighborhoods, and the estate-country gentility of Franklin, Brentwood, and the surrounding Williamson County corridor creates a market range from bachelorette-party industrial-chic to countryside formal elegance.

East Tennessee's Great Smoky Mountains — Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge, and the rural communities of Sevier County — constitute a massive elopement and intimate ceremony market. Gatlinburg alone hosts thousands of weddings annually, from drive-through chapel ceremonies to mountaintop elopements above treeline in the national park. The Smokies' mist, old-growth forest, and wildflower meadows make for photography of genuine natural beauty at almost every elevation.

West Tennessee — Memphis, Jackson, and the lower Mississippi River communities — has a completely different character. Memphis's Beale Street heritage, the Crosstown Concourse arts complex, the Dixon Gallery's garden, and the Memphis Brooks Museum of Art on Overton Park all serve a market rooted in the city's musical and cultural history.

Tennessee's most popular outdoor wedding photography months are April through June in spring and September through November in fall. Spring in Nashville arrives with dogwood and cherry blooms in Centennial Park, Radnor Lake State Park's wildflower understory, and the rolling green of the Cumberland Plateau's rural countryside. The window between late March and mid-May is when middle Tennessee estate venues look their most purely beautiful.

Fall in the Smokies — October through early November — is one of the most heavily sought-after periods in the entire American wedding calendar. Great Smoky Mountains National Park's fall color peaks between mid-October and early November, drawing couples specifically to Gatlinburg and the surrounding communities for elopements in the park's flame azalea meadows and old-growth cove forests.

Nashville in fall is equally strong. The Music City skyline at golden hour with warm October light, the Belcourt Theatre neighborhood's street character, and the Shelby Park area along the Cumberland River all photograph beautifully from September through November.

Summer in Tennessee is hot and humid, particularly in Memphis and the lower western valleys. Nashville and the surrounding middle-state communities are slightly drier and cooler than the river valleys. Evening ceremonies and portrait timing adjustments manage summer conditions well.

Nashville is our Tennessee hub. We photograph throughout the city's venues — the Gulch's contemporary event spaces, East Nashville's neighborhood arts character (Five Points, the McFerrin Park area), downtown's SoBro corridor, and the warehouse-district venues along 11th and 12th Avenues. The historic Belle Meade Plantation grounds, Cheekwood Estate and Gardens, and the Cheekwood Botanical Garden serve the formal estate market in the western suburbs.

In the Franklin and Brentwood corridor, we photograph at the estate venues of Williamson County — large properties with rolling horse-country topography, wildflower fields, and barns converted to event spaces that serve a significant portion of Nashville's overflow wedding market.

Gatlinburg and the Smokies are our east Tennessee anchor. We photograph at park elopement locations throughout Great Smoky Mountains National Park — Alum Cave Trail, the Chimney Tops viewpoint, Cades Cove's historic structure landscape, and the higher-elevation meadows above 5,000 feet accessible via the Appalachian Trail corridor. The Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge, and Sevier County chapel and venue landscape serves the more conventional ceremony market.

Chattanooga's Walnut Street Bridge, Coolidge Park, the Tennessee Aquarium waterfront, Lookout Mountain, and the Bluff View Art District serve our Hamilton County market.

Tennessee wedding photography spans the widest tonal range of any South Central state. Nashville's neon Broadway at dusk and a Smoky Mountain mist-and-old-growth elopement at dawn exist within the same state, and we photograph both with equal care.
