Utah's wedding venue geography offers some of the most dramatic natural scenery accessible to wedding photographers and filmmakers anywhere in the world. The Colorado Plateau's red rock canyon country — Zion, Bryce Canyon, Arches, Canyonlands, and Monument Valley on the Arizona border — creates ceremony settings with a scale and color that no other American landscape matches. Zion Canyon's 2,000-foot sandstone walls, the narrows of the Virgin River, and the Angel's Landing silhouette provide a visual scale that dwarfs the human subjects in the foreground in a way we work actively to balance.

Salt Lake City and the Wasatch Front offer a counterpoint: a major urban area at the foot of a 11,000-foot mountain range, with the Great Salt Lake's vast flat expanse to the west and the Wasatch peaks visible from every downtown rooftop. Park City, 30 minutes east of Salt Lake through Parleys Canyon, has the ski resort estate and lodge culture of a world-class mountain town, with the ski mountains, the Main Street historic district, and the Deer Valley and Canyons Resort properties creating a diverse mountain venue cluster.

For Zion Canyon and the adjacent St. George–Hurricane area venues, the sandstone canyon walls and the canyon-bottom light produce some of the most saturated warm-toned natural illumination available at any outdoor ceremony venue. The canyon orientation — east-west in the main Zion Canyon — means the sun enters the canyon from one end in morning and the other in evening, creating predictable light windows that we plan ceremony and portrait timing around.

For Park City's ski resort venues — the Montage Deer Valley, the St. Regis Deer Valley, and the Waldorf Astoria Park City among others — the mountain backdrop at elevation and the ski run geometry create a visual context specific to a resort mountain town. The blue-green of the Jordanelle Reservoir visible from Deer Valley's upper elevations adds a water element to the mountain composition.

For Moab and the canyon country in eastern Utah, the vermillion red of the Entrada Sandstone at the Arches environment and the La Sal Mountains in the background above the canyon rims create depth-layer compositions that are a Utah-specific visual experience.
