At a Glance

Antigua's coastline is deeply indented — a long series of sheltered bays rather than one continuous beach — which gives a wedding party genuine choice of setting within a small island. English Harbour in the south, a working Georgian naval dockyard, is a UNESCO World Heritage site and unlike anything else in the region.

Why Couples Marry in Antigua

The island's shape is its advantage. Antigua's coast is broken into dozens of bays and coves, most of them sheltered, which means there is almost always a calm side whatever the wind is doing. The frequently quoted figure of 365 beaches is a tourism-board flourish, but the underlying point is real: the variety within a forty-minute drive is unusual.

Nelson's Dockyard at English Harbour is the other distinguishing feature — a restored Georgian naval facility, still in use for yachts, with stone pillars, brick buildings and a maritime setting that photographs like nowhere else in the Caribbean. It is a UNESCO World Heritage site and a genuine alternative to a beach for both ceremony and portraits.

Where Weddings Happen in Antigua

The southwest coast around Jolly Harbour and Darkwood, and the northwest around Dickenson Bay, hold most of the resort properties and the calmest swimming water. The south, around English Harbour and Falmouth Harbour, is sailing country — busier with yachts, quieter with hotels, and the setting for the dockyard.

Antigua's sailing calendar matters for planning. Antigua Sailing Week falls in late April into early May and fills accommodation across the south of the island; the Charter Yacht Show and other events do the same at other points in the season. If your date lands on one of these, book far earlier than you otherwise would.

Properties couples ask about most often include Curtain Bluff on the south coast, Hermitage Bay in the west, and Jumby Bay Island, a private island reached by boat from the mainland.

Best Time for an Antigua Wedding

The dry season runs from around December through April and is the most reliable window — lower humidity, less rain, and the peak of both demand and rates. May through November is wetter, and the Atlantic hurricane season falls within it with the highest risk from August into October.

Antigua is drier than the mountainous islands to its south, which means fewer of the sudden rainforest showers that punctuate a St Lucia afternoon, but it also means less shade. On an open bay in March the middle of the day is genuinely harsh, and a ceremony timed for late afternoon is not merely an aesthetic preference.

Sunset falls between roughly 5:45 PM and 6:30 PM across the year, with little seasonal movement.

How We Cover an Antigua Wedding

Full-day documentary coverage: preparations, ceremony, the hours between, reception. Travel is included in the package price, so there is no separate travel quote for an Antigua date.

We arrive before the wedding day. With this many bays and a dockyard in play, the useful preparation is working out which two or three settings can realistically be combined in one day without spending it in a car.
