Curaçao sits in the southern Caribbean alongside Aruba and Bonaire, outside the belt most Atlantic hurricanes follow. It offers two settings that few islands can combine: the UNESCO-listed Dutch colonial waterfront of Willemstad, and a coastline of small coves set between limestone cliffs.

Why Couples Marry in Curaçao

Willemstad is the reason most couples look at Curaçao. The Handelskade waterfront — a row of Dutch colonial merchant houses painted in strong colours, facing the harbour channel — is a UNESCO World Heritage site and gives an urban, architectural setting that no beach destination in the region can match.

The island shares Aruba's climate advantages: arid, cactus-covered, reliably sunny, and south of the corridor most hurricanes track through. That combination of dependable weather and a genuine town makes it a good fit for couples who want more than a resort beach but do not want to sacrifice the odds on their date.

Where Weddings Happen in Curaçao

The coastline is not long unbroken beach. Curaçao's shore is cut into a series of small bays — Cas Abao, Playa Porto Marie, Grote Knip and others along the western half — each a pocket of sand between limestone headlands. They are beautiful and compact, which means a ceremony fills them rather than sits within them, and access to several involves a fee and a walk down.

Willemstad itself divides into Punda and Otrobanda across the channel, linked by the swinging Queen Emma pontoon bridge. Portraits in the town work best early, before the cruise arrivals and the midday heat.

Properties couples ask about most often include Baoase Luxury Resort near Willemstad, Avila Beach Hotel on its own small bay in the town, and Santa Barbara Beach & Golf Resort on the southeast coast.

Best Time for a Curaçao Wedding

Like Aruba, Curaçao is dependable year-round. Rainfall is low throughout and concentrated in short showers from October into December. The rest of the year is dry, and temperatures sit in the mid to high eighties Fahrenheit with steady trade winds.

The island's southern position puts it outside the main hurricane corridor, and while storms are not impossible, the risk through the June-to-November season is markedly lower than in the eastern or western Caribbean. For a couple who cannot move a date, that is the strongest argument for the ABC islands.

Sunset falls consistently around 6:30 PM through the year. The west-facing coves put the sun over the water, and because the bays are small the light changes quickly in the final half hour.

How We Cover a Curaçao Wedding

Full-day documentary coverage, preparations through reception. Travel is included in the package price — flights, accommodation and ground transport are already covered.

We arrive before the wedding day. Combining a Willemstad portrait session with a cove ceremony is very doable, but only with the drive times and the cruise-ship schedule checked in advance rather than discovered on the day.
