Almost every couple who chooses St Lucia chooses it for the Pitons. Gros Piton and Petit Piton rise from the sea on the southwest coast, and the resorts built to face them have made that view one of the most recognisable in the Caribbean. Unlike the flat coral islands further east, St Lucia is mountainous and covered in rainforest, which gives depth and layering to images that a beach horizon cannot.

The island is also compact enough that a wedding can include genuinely different environments in one day — coastline, rainforest, and the sulphur springs and waterfalls inland around Soufrière.

The Soufrière area in the southwest is where the Piton-facing properties sit, and where most destination weddings happen. The north, around Rodney Bay and Cap Estate, is flatter, more developed and closer to the main town of Castries.

Geography is the thing to plan around. St Lucia's roads are steep, winding and slow, and the two airports sit at opposite ends: Hewanorra International (UVF) in the south near Vieux Fort, which handles most long-haul arrivals, and George F. L. Charles (SLU) in the north for regional flights. A transfer from UVF to a northern resort can take well over an hour and a half; to Soufrière it is shorter but still a mountain road. If your guests are arriving on the same day as a welcome event, that drive is the constraint.

Properties couples ask about most often include Sugar Beach, which sits directly between the two Pitons; Ladera, built on the ridge above with rooms open to the view; Jade Mountain above Anse Chastanet; and Cap Maison at the northern tip.

The dry season runs December through April and is the reliable window — less rain, lower humidity, and the busiest and priciest stretch of the year. May through November is wetter, with the Atlantic hurricane season running June through November and peak activity from August into October.

Even in the dry season, a mountainous rainforest island produces short sharp showers that pass in minutes. That is normal rather than a disaster, and it is worth having a covered fallback within a few minutes' walk rather than an elaborate plan B on the other side of the property.

Sunset falls between roughly 5:45 PM and 6:30 PM across the year, with little seasonal swing. On the west-facing Soufrière coast the sun goes down over the water beside the Pitons, which is the reason most ceremonies there are scheduled for late afternoon.

Coverage is full-day and unposed, from preparations through the reception. Travel is included in the package price — flights, accommodation and ground transport are already covered, so a St Lucia wedding costs what the pricing page says it costs.

We arrive before the wedding day. On an island where a fifteen-kilometre distance can be a forty-minute drive, and where the light on a west-facing bay changes character in the last half hour, walking the ground in advance is not a luxury.
